Yeah, yeah I know they all say love will come when you aren’t looking for it- being my vision is so bad that I can be considered legally blind- maybe I should take my contacts out…. Last week I was having lunch with a girl friend and we somehow ended up on the topic of romance and the current dating scene.Women have to message first on Bumble and yet they swipe on you, match with you then don’t reply when you message- what is the damn point of that?!When online dating first came out the biggest concern was being “cat-fished”, now your biggest concern is being “douche-bagged” by some loser man-child who can’t spell, hold a conversation or provide good quality sex.Or, there are men who say that they are single but then secretly text their girl friend saying that they are still out with the guys and will be home late.Second, many complain about meeting men who only want sex; some of these men pretend to want a relationship, but ultimately it's a deception.By the end of lunch, we reached the conclusion that romance is pretty much dead.I was devastated at the thought, but I think we're right.
As part of that work, I have asked women about their perceptions of the dating market - what they have to do to acquire a good prospect in light of the fact that there are other women out there trying to win the same prize.I should preface the rest of this blog by saying that I don't know much about men's views of the dating world, as it's not part of my research, so I'm going to focus on women here. They usually begin by complaining about the available men. First, they meet men who are already in relationships but who take off their wedding ring to appear available. This is code for I’m just looking for sex but I’m wack as hell and instead of just saying that I ask this stupid ass question. How about you shut the hell up, hold some real conversation and try being honest about what you’re looking for instead of wasting people’s time! I wonder every single day if today will be the day I say fuck it; buy the most expensive sex toy I can find, a life supply of batteries, a couple of cats and some top of the line scrap-booking tools and call it a day. They seem to believe that men really don't care if they are romantic, so why bother?
