I’m fortunate to have had intimate glimpses into people’s lives that span the whole spectrum of society.
It demystifies a lot of the lesser-seen areas for me.
Now I’m making art that resonates, I have to ensure I maintain a high standard because I’m held completely accountable, so it needs to be sincere. To me, the art world was an institution that existed in museums.
I thought, “This shit is all way over my head.” Then I came to New York, and suddenly there were all these artists that I could relate to who had valid voices.
Pain can be distracting when you are trying to execute an artistic design.
